Hee hee, I'm getting such a kick reading the various FB status updates regarding black friday and jesus!  Since I am not a selfish person, I decided to share a few with you:

1)Who's standing in line fighting to see jesus?  Try jesus - no line!

2)I think we should have black friday for folks that wanna be saved.  You have to be at church at 3 a.m. to make it to heaven.

3)I got everything I need on black friday, JESUS!

The last one is my personal favorite.  I just want to ask that person if they kept the receipt!!

If it weren't for Jesus, there wouldn't even be a Black Friday.

@Sentient & Steph - I must admit that I did partake in black friday shopping.  However, it wasn't at any big box stores and I didn't get up at the crack of dawn.  It was at a local book store, I couldn't resist!

I wish the reason there was no line for Jesus was due to a lack of popularity. A guy can dream, right?

Well said James!

Sadly, Mara, the current evangelical raison d'existence -- the so-called Prosperity
Gospel -- is tailor-made to ever more calamitous self-indulgence at this time of the year.  Now that camels have marched in a long line, like Best Buy sidewalk campers, through the eye of a needle, they are encouraged to shop till they drop because, after all, if they die buying X-Mess presents, they will go straight to that big Macy's in the Sky, after first assuring St. Peter that they were "good": having spent the family fortune, they went on welfare.
