LOL has anyone heard of this Carrie Prejean girl? I don't follow Pagent shows or any of that crap but the she's the Miss California runner up that is a Conservative xtian and... apparently she got mad about religious persecution or some shit like that??

Anyway, all the execs had to do is pop in a sex (masturbation) tape of hers and suddenly her moral credibility was destroyed LOL.

I don't know much about the story, but after a quick google, I see that a whole lot of people are outraged by her. Did anyone else know about this?

I'm always about a month late on stuff like this.

LOL... the absence of "news" seems to keep my blood pressure down. It's kinda nice under the rock ;-)

Johnny - I do love that the same people who say we shouldn't be allowed to teach evolution in schools, or show the president's speech in class, or show up at town halls bent on disrupting the very conversation about health care, are the same people who will cry 'free speech' when someone doesn't like their soapboxing.

Rusty - I too live under a rock, no TV, and only internet for news. I guess we're skimming different Internet news sources? ;-)

LOL, see? to someone this actually is news...unless that was a "WTF how do you not know this?"
Then I still get the dunce hat =P

WTF!? I'm also under a rock. I don't have a tv and the only news I get is what I run across on the internet...

HEY!! It was free speech for me to run into the crowded auditorium and yell 'FIRE!'

if they think that freedom of speech means freedom from critique, they should start exhibiting that themselves. It would surely make our job much easier if the idiots would shut up.

While I too tend to live under a rock, that rock does skim major news outlets from time to time.

The whole flap over Prejan came during the Miss America/Miss USA (is there a difference?) pageant. The judges traditionally ask the contestants questions about world views which they're supposed to answer with "Save the orphans, I love puppies" or whatever.

The question to Prejan was on gay marriage rights. She effectively answered that she is against gay marriage rights. Not only that but gave a stereotypically dumb-beauty-queen answer. Something to the effect of "I'm just glad I live in a country where people can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage."

'Opposite marriage.' Thanks for the new term Barbie.

And what's this 'choose' thing you speak of? You just said that gay marriage should be illegal and in most of the country it is. That's the opposite of freedom-to-choose.

She lost the pageant (not by much - second I believe) and got a lot of heat for her answer, both because of it's intolerance and stupidity in delivery.

She then went on a media blitz whining that her free speech was being trampled on and she was being persecuted because of her religious views. Not surprisingly, one of her great defenders was/is Sarah Palin.

Lady, hate to burst your bubble but you're being persecuted because of your hateful views. Doesn't matter whether or not they're Christian-based. And Free Speech (if it is the 1st Amendment you're referring to) has nothing to do with beauty pageants. It applies to the government not being allowed to arrest you because you spoke your mind (outright treason or incitement to violence not withstanding). It does not protect you from losing a beauty contest.

hahaha i admit it! I live under a rock.

I ALWAYS get pop culture info from friends extremely late. I just don't care that much about people who don't effect my life directly unless it is big enough to reach me under my rock.
