Critiques vs Hate (and I spose we can talk about trolling too)

I recently had the misfortune of watching "Transformers 2: The Rape and Pillage of my Childhood Continues" (alternative title: Transformers: AMERICA! FUCK YEAH!)

I loathed it. I'm an unrepentant 80's child who has watched, over the last few years, her memories slowly have a resurgence of popularity. This is, of course, quickly followed by some numbskull trying to make a quick buck with a bad film and I'm sick of it! But that's not why I didn't like the film. I didn't like it because I think it's a terrible film, badly paced, with badly done action sequences and way too much emphasis on people who can't act when the point of the matter IT'S GIANT ALIEN ROBOTS FIGHTING. Only Michael Bay could have fucked this movie up.

I expressed my loathing for this film on a forum I frequent. Ok, so I expressed it repeatedly, and at length, but many people agreed with me. And I did make an attempt to express my loathing in ways that were based on fact.
FACT: I couldn't understand what was going on in the action scenes.
FACT: They used fart and leg-humping jokes.
FACT: The characters do things noone would do in real life. Like leave to go on holiday while your house has a smoking gaping hole in it.

And then those of us who thought it was a lousy film were completely drowned out by 16 year olds chorusing:

And I wonder - when, exactly, did giving a thinking, reasoned, guenuine critique turn into hate? When did expressing a negative opinion become a horrible thing to do? When did "Demolition Man's" ludicrous dys/utopia start becoming a reality?

Has anyone else experienced this sort of nonsense? Either online or in RL. Felch, come on, I'm sure you have. :D

Sorry about the very late post, I just joined.
I loved the first transformers movie so much I went to BotCon that year, so yes extremely disappointed (still) about the sequel. One of the worst movies I've ever see.

Good question. I find people calling me "negative" when they don't seem to want to think about something in depth, or are unable to counter my assertion. If the Online Etymology Dictionary is to be believed, around 1992.

felch: Did you run out of fetuses?

At some point acknowledging how much something sucks became "Being too negative".
I get it a lot. "You're too negative!" I'm not too negative. I'm just talked into watching things that suck and I don't have the sense to not mock them right there in front of the fanboy/girl.

I'm guessing the new movie is also a shitty advertisement for whatever company paid the most to advertise their shitty cars. I only know that because I was forced to watch the first movie.
"You'll like it! It's got really good special effects!" Whenever the only thing a fan of a movie can say about it is how good the effects are, I know it's going to suck dog balls. "Yeah, that 2 minute camera pan around that Camaro was awesome. Can I stop watching yet?"
Don't worry, Transformers isn't the last we'll see of our childhood being destroyed. The GI Joe movie comes out this year, I think. Oh, and the Thundercats movie.
