I mentioned somewhere else on AtheistNexus that xians fail to realize that ethics, as a field of study, originated with the ancient Greeks, who didn't attach it to the practice of their religion in any way. I found the following article on Psychology Today: http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/experiments-in-philosophy/20080...

James Kz, I saw that while I was on active duty, too. There was an article in Foreign Affairs, last year, I think, that said that up until the Vietnam War, the military took pride in being neutral where politics were concerned. But, so many war protesters were so vocally derogatory of armed forces members themselves, demonizing them, that the neutrality began to shift to the right. That generation of protesters changed the face of American culture, but unfortunatelly, they also changed the political leaning of military members. The protesters of the Gulf Wars seemed not to have repeated this same mistake. (If I can find a link to that article -- I read it -n hard copy -- I'll post it).

One other thing: while I was in the Coast Guard, I was only one of two members of our unit who were democrats. I once overheard the CO talking to my division officer, referring to myself and the other democrat as 'the unit communists.'

Actually, it might, for they have already stated they uphold God's laws above our own. Thus, if they don't get what they want, they may choose to impose it.

Remember, they are indoctrinating the military in religious belief. I saw it while I was in, and it is only worse now. I fear for our country.

What atheists pose a threat to is the bullshit which says that there must be an ABSOLUTE STANDARD for morality, mostly promoted by christian fundamentalists and dominionists who apparently want to see the US Constitution replaced with the Pentateuch as a basis for the laws of this land.
