Do Christian and Atheist relationships work?

I'm interested in this guy at school who is a Christian. He and I are really just friends now and I would like to know if he might want to date. I haven't told him that I'm Atheist and I haven't told him that I liked him (I'm getting to it) but have any of you every heard of or been in this type of relationship? I feel that he himself would be fine with it but I wouldn't want to date him if it would cause friction and distance between him and his parents.

Any thoughts or ideas?

They wouldn't for me, but I know of such relationships. Well, I even know of marriages like that, so I suppose they can work out. What really matters is that it shouldn't require one-way sacrifices.

I know how you feel--it's a slippery slope when you meet someone that claims christianity and you don't know how they are going to respond to you when you do come out to them. Rejection is always a harsh thing to have to swallow. I'd advise to proceed with caution...maybe start by asking him if he knows anyone that is an atheist in order to get his views on the matter. If he starts being judgemental and you start trying to get him to see that athiests aren't that bad, it can be a big turn-off for him. Again, I'd take baby steps because many christians don't realize how judgemental they sound--they are too wrapped up in reforming for "the greater good". Above all else, realize that you are open to accepting him no matter what (and that shows you have a stellar character)...if he can't meet you halfway, maybe that's "the greater good" being shown to you by his character.
