I am a sociologist with an interest in religious practice (as well as deviance and crime, medicine and organisations).

I have some free time coming up in September.

I am thinking about running a sociological experiment.

I want to attend as many different types of religious services as possible.

My intention is to attend but not participate and just take notes during the services. I would introduce myself if approached after the services are finished. At that point I would introduce myself as sociologist studying the diversity of religious practice. If asked I will admit that I am an an atheist.

I would then write the results up in seperate ethnographic studies.

The first of these studies will be on the everyday practice of Shinto and Buddhist in Japan.
