Even evangelism gets misunderstood. Recently my grown stepson died of throat cancer. He had been treated for it successfully, but continued to smoke, so the cancer returned and this time it killed him. I told my very religious friend about my stepson's passing and my friend says, "smoking might cause him to wake up in a place where he doesn't want to be." My reply to my friend was that he didn't get it. My stepson was dead. He's not going to be doing any "waking up."
Somehow people seem to miss what you are saying. I told the above story to a woman I work with (a smoker) who claims to have had religion forced upon her as a child. She immediately got defensive and told me she didn't want to hear anything about Jesus. She then tells me that Jesus himself was probably a smoker! I appeared to think a minute and then said "actually he was. When we were teenagers he smoked Marlboro."
Then I just turned and walked away. I'm not sure where some of these people come from.
