I have noticed a great uprising of atheists. Also, with the rise of
atheists, so has risen the conflict between religion and science. I
think it is because religious people realize that they are dying out.
Think about this for a moment. Some of the oldest gods in the world used
to be the god of thunder, the god of war, the god of the sun, and the
goddess of love. When science finally described lightening and other
natural things in a rational way, those gods just kind of died away.
God, in my opinion has nothing left to offer society. Evolution has been
proven, the Big Bang is almost 100% certain in the scientific
community. The need for 'the god of the gaps' is going away, and at a
very fast rate. I think atheism or at least agnosticism will be the
major ideas with the next 100-200 years. Hopefully mankind can come to
terms with this.

Oh, I know for a fact that the US will not be leading. I was talking as an overview of the world.

Catholicism has withstood Columbus, Galileo and protestantism. Religion ain't go anywhere. Too many poor and hopeless people need a reason for their suffering. Religion is actually good. "If there were no God there would be need to invent him."-paraphrasing Voltaire.
