Evidently there's a small fringe of Christianity that believes that god literally died to clear the sin slate for humanity. That is, as they say, why there are no longer miracles or an involved deity. These Christians believe that they should live their lives by the moral teachings of Jesus anyway. Just when I thought I had heard of it all.....

I'll give Christian Atheism one compliment, at least in their telling the Yaweh fucker finally gets what's coming to him.
John, if they followed the literal teachings of Jesus then they would be blind after poking out their eyes to avoid lust and completely broke after giving away all their worldly possessions. Does that sound moral? No, I think we both would agree it doesn't. Your blog is good btw.
Pat, thanks. A car crash doesn't quite capture the stupidity though ;)
James - Good analogy. Like a car crash, it's tragic and while you know you shouldn't look, it's hard to divert your gaze.
I wonder if they have actually studied the moral teachings of Jesus... They might be very surprised. I once went through the four gospels and collected everything Jesus is reported to have said about what his followers should DO. His ethical teachings are apocalyptic-- drastic, extreme, utterly unworldly, but perfectly sensible IF you believe that the world is soon to end and very few will be allowed into Heaven. I wrote up my findings here:

All of us are Atheist :) Christian Atheist maybe means like what dawkins said, All of us are atheist on some gods :)
Pat - I don't know how they justify it and, frankly, other than reading the short blurb on wikipedia I'm not interested in investing my time into looking it up. I just thought it was interesting like a car crash.
Loren - I agree. But I hear more and more people that say they don't believe in god, but follow the 'moral teachings' of Jesus. I hope this doesn't catch on as science continually shows that god is unnecessary.
They're trying to justify what they were taught as kids, James ... and very likely not having a whole lot of luck at it. The truly operant question is whether or not they're willing to face down the data and realize that they backed the wrong horse.
Do these morons believe in an afterlife? If not, what's the point in dying for sins, if sins aren't punished in the afterlife? And, if they do believe in an afterlife, they're still relying on a delusion; even sans dios. And if they don't believe in an afterlife, why give a shit? Come to think of it, why give a shit to begin with?
I agree more and more everyday with Dawkins' statement that some smart people are very good at justifying stupid positions.
lol, I wouldn't be. It's like they acknowledge that there is no god, but don't want to admit that there never was...
