To liberals who are doctrinaire...ya makin a mistake.

The deviation from core principles escapes the doctrinaire liberal in the examination of Islam. Why is the topic off limits? Those who criticize it are islamophobes. We cant criticize a culture. Right?

If that is the conclusion then we absolve abuse on a massive scale.

Yeah, and our ability to produce words varies inversely as our ability to identify our feelings.

You fine gentlemen speak eloquently in the name of principles, humane and compassionate thought and I need add not one letter to your words.

I agree. I'm sure as well that our fundies that are trying to mix Christianity and government know this and want to push it in such a way that "their religion is part of their culture." With Islam or with them it just doesn't fly.

The way things are going with me, Islam will get a pass on a day that doesn't end in "Y."

Enow spake.

I agree. The idea that Islamic medieval attitudes are somehow relative and therefore shouldn't be compared with Western ethics, is, as you say a mistake. The middle ages in Europe, when the Christian church held magisterial power, was a theocratic nightmare for free speech and civil liberty, any action that contravened scripture was a death sentence. It took hundreds of years to throttle the Christian appetite for blood, and we understand now that it was men's sadistic natures not holy orders that inspired the ''justice''. That age wasn't apologetically relative it was barbaric. Stoning people to death, amputating limbs, whip-lashing and beheadings are not relative, they're primitive punishments with no place in a civilised society

We have now with Islam a culture with all the bloodlust of the medieval Christian church, and it should at least be recognised.
