How 'out' are YOU?

As for me, I'm telling my parents I am a humanist. It's a gentle way I think to advance some understanding, and advance it in a positive way. Who can be assailed for being pro-human??

As for social media, I'm pretty 'out' on twitter (@andyhoke). I'm not 'out' on Facebook. I'm kind of 'out' on YouTube. I'm anything but 'out' on LinkedIn.

Lastly to the anonymous and nom de plume... I completely appreciate and welcome all of the considerate and ingenious posters and posts. I would ask you to consider taking some other step toward being 'out.' I believe it will help the species.

I'm not out at all at work.

To me being out is completely normal. I never hide my atheism (and by the same token, I don't shove it at people "hi, pleased to meet you, I'm an aheist")

I encourage atheists to 'represent,' and for people to freely speak about the what has turned into the 'elephant in the room.'

Neitzsche called the time of God's death 132 years, 6 - 10 generations ago. There were also ancient Greeks who pointed out that it was all bullsh*t.

Some people need to manage religion's removal.

Thanks for the posts. All interesting.

I'd really like to reduce (even remove) the stigma surrounding atheism. I think humanism is a subtle but straightforward strategy for starters.

I think we are legion.

You Tube is now Google and it prints my real name if I comment there. I'm out to some people and going to be fully out to all soon, but you might say I'm 100% out on You Tube comments.

Thanks for the feedback Pat and Loren.

How to deal with elephant in the room, right?

I don't advertise especially, though I'm considering getting a circle-A lapel pin, a-la The Thinking Atheist logo.  If someone asks, they get the straight dope.  How down I am with just spontaneously telling someone out of the blue, "I am an atheist," I don't know.  That would depend on the situation and the person.

On a scale of 1 (completely in the closet) to 10 (everyone who knows me knows I'm an atheist), I'm a 10.
