I believe in living and let live. Since I really realized that I am an atheist I have felt happier, more friendly and empathic toward people. I can be around any religion and be fine, The problem is can religion be around me, the atheist in the same way. We atheists get a bad rap. the rest of my family celebrates Christmas, I still can go through the motions. I have nothing to prove. I think prayer, heaven, hell, and all the preaching is silly and can't understand why so called smart people believe in that hog wash. It should just dawn on people I think as they evolve. We got that crazy governor of Texas that does not believe in global warming and actually prayed for snow. There is really something wrong with a so called leader acting like that,

So True Barbara!

Though a key to understanding those that believe is that their mindware (the faculties that allow you to think, data, etc) has been grossly contaminated by indoctrination.

Now for Why Intelligent People (High IQ or gifted) do and believe stupid things:

Yes it is simply a matter of GIGO (Garbage In = Garbage Out)

Indoctrination into stupidity (Superstition and mythical ideas/philosophies) at a young age can ruin a person's ability to become fully Rational for life.

This is why the Freedom From Religion and other Secular groups are opposed to all forms of childhood indoctrination.

Even some who have turned away from religion to atheism, have suffered damage to their rational thinking.  Though they may have moved in the right direction, there will always be a little niggling doubt about some aspects of being an atheist that remain, because a sense that something may be out there watching us.

Barbara, what is even more wrong than the governor of Texas fundamentally acting like a horse's patoot are all the people who voted for him and would do so again!  If that ain't scary, I can't help ya!

It's because everybody wants to go to some sort of heaven, and nobody wants to die. Human nature steps in and chrisitan apologists keep on lying themselves into it. If you get a lot of people to believe it, then it must be true, right? At the very least you have attention and a lot of company.
