How does the idea of a “Catholic child” not make you sick? The child isn’t being given a choice whatsoever in their religion. Their parents have already made a decision for them before they can even make a good decision. Young children are very impressionable and you scare the shit out of them with fear of eternal damnation, that will stick with them. Indoctrinating children is easily equivalent to brainwashing. I think its truly a form of child abuse.

“Isn’t it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?” -Douglas Adams
A child sees thing and ask questions. If you tell them the Bible is the answer and its infallible that’s going to stay with them. Instead we should teach them science and raise all children as agnostics. Then when they are old enough to make a decision for themselves, they can choose religion or atheism. People need to break free from this vicious cycle from generation to generation. I am happy that I was never truly raised in a religion, many people who were have lasting psychological effects. I mean if you are so used to being scared of going to Hell and even if you figure out it isn’t true that feeling will still be there. It just isn’t right to do this to children. I mean isn’t religion essentially a giant book club? Everyone should have a choice to opt in or not.

Censorship is an unfortunate construct. I prefer realism.

I don't know you Jake and have never discussed anything with you and surely, having no established basis for a relationship which makes you a total stranger I obviously owe you an apology. Not for anything I've said but for having used your editorial post to air my opinions which have nothing to do with your content. I do apologize Jake and it certainly won't happen again.

I decided I'll just leave it. Don't care that much.

I am 100% cool with deletion of offensive stuff. (You say censorship, I say mommy.)

Like you Ms. Homan, I eat meat, so your reference to PETA doesn't make sense to me.

*ahem, cough, uncomfortable*

Look - here's useful information on indoctrination, my favorite site for checking up to see if a church or nonreligious group "qualifies" as a cult, and a creepy/funny video "How to Be a Cult Leader" that is incredibly accurate.

Wherever you are on A/N you are aggressive, defiant, hostile, vicious, mean, and also foul mouthed, oh, and a CYBERBULLY too... I'm new to this group, and I've already been messaged and warned about you... Your reputation precedes you, if only you knew how much.

Ms. Homan, the only person EVER guilty of cyber bullying is YOU. You ARE a cyber bully. You wait patiently so that you can jump out and attack people. You love the "attack mode" and wear it well. You attack people on almost EVERY thread you comment on and your comments are consistently condescending. Following you from thread to thread and watching your actions is proof positive of my assessment.

Post the emails, PLEASE, BUT post your emails to me as well, PLEASE.

Ms. Homan said, "how vicious you are too with personal attacks, insults and cyberbullying that are bordering along the lines of libel and slander...not to mention ABUSIVE!"

Bordering on libel and slander? You might consult an attorney dear, after seeing a psychiatrist. You compulsively elicit discord. You are a lurker. You hide behind a persona of pity and hate on all of the threads you appear on.

The only thing you do well is distort the facts. Yes, POST THE EMAILS MS. HOMAN. I'm not afraid of the words I used but you should surely fear your own. While I refrained from using completely disparaging language you used a plethora of curse words and showed that you are filled with only hate. You suffer from a persecution complex. If someone disagrees with you, you attack.

Here's the last email I received from you.

Why don't you and your little cyber bullying anti-meat fascists leave me the fuck alone, OK. If you don't like what I have to say, then don't email me. This is NOT a polite request.

Fuckin' right I criticized that brat (who is legally an adult since she's age 18) for calling me "bitch" and getting downright abusive simply because I didn't suck up to her mother's agenda and instead, spoke out against her mother's bullying of Angie — Angie knows more about cult indoctrination than you do. Instead of blasting me for that, maybe you should teach Sydni that little ignorant cunt Allegra some manners.

Amazing how any stupid bitch can procreate, yet to adopt an abandoned pet, one needs to practically be the Pope, but I digress...

For you to call me "venomous, manipulating, egotistical" when that little friend of yours had the audacity to lash out at me the way she did because her PETA-Nazi mother could not debate me herself, you haven't looked in the mirror — or taken a good look at your friend Sydni and her twat tumor, Allegra. Maybe that's because you can't look in the mirror with your nose stuck so far up Sydni's ass, and her vicious foul-mouthed brat's ass, that you CAN'T look in the mirror — much less look at reality.

People like Sydni, and Allegra have turned A|N into a haven catering to pseudo-liberal anti-meat Nazis who post about the same fuckin' religion of PETA and that's ALL they ever talk about. And anyone who dares to disagree with them gets viciously attacked and bullied. Your fuckin' right I think highly of myself. I am not a Nazi like your asshole friends.

There, have I dumbed it down enough for you to "get it?" Now fuck off, and don't email me anymore.

Jake, I agree. When I hear some friends talk about how "cute" their kid is because they beg to go to VBS or as they recite the "Lords Prayer" it really does make me feel a little bit sick. But, I have to separate the truly abusive, cults like Angie grew up in, with those parents that really are doing their best to raise their kids with their values. I don't agree with them, I still say it's indoctrination, but I suppose they don't agree with me either.

To some of the other comments - I really appreciate the wider discussion about indoctrination. Talking about other ways in which children and adults are indoctrinated is useful because it can help us realize that even we freethinking atheists are not always immune to indoctrinating. But to bring the bickering and the "he said, she said" from PLH to Jake's blog just doesn't seem right to me. That's all I'm going to say, ultimately it's Jake's blog so what I'm saying doesn't really matter, it's just my opinion, I've said my piece and won't comment further on this here.
