Jehovahs Witness Church ignores my friend at his funeral. How would you have responded?

Perhaps my friend did want to be ignored at his funeral and I am simply being selfish and not honoring his wishes. If he choose not to have much mention at all but by name at his funeral then that brainwashing pisses me off. Did I just make it about me and my loss? Was I insensitive to him? Any way you look at it the loss of my friend bothered me, the way his church handled it angered me. Was I the one out of line? How would you have reacted?

This is typical behavior of Jehovah's Witnesses, as I understand it. Seth Andrews of The Thinking Atheist has done at least one podcast which dealt with the highly peculiar approach JWs take toward funerals and their tendency to dismiss what should be the focus of the funeral: the deceased. I may see if I can dig up that episode and post it here.

I hear ya, brother. These days with my liver the drinking is a bit less. I'm having whiskey and coke right now and the fridge is full of beer, but I might have some of these drinks around for weeks. I had to slow up a lot or die. My doc is proud of me but she doesn't know I also treat myself aside from her meds. My readings are all good so I'm OK.   :)

Some of my family are JW's and this is sort of how they are. The Jonah film might represent coming out of the belly of the fish as an afterlife if you believe in Jehovah. My aunt and uncle were JW's and their service was a closed casket and talking about Jehovah. Death seems to be a celebration of the one they think gave you life.

Myself, as a former Pentecostal, I'm going to be cremated and any service they have for me can be family talking of me with pictures all on a big board.
