Look At Me, Momma. I Got A Blog!!

Actually, no. Don't look. You don't know I'm an Atheist yet. . .

Now, since this is the beginning of my blog... I think... I should probably start at the beginning. And naturally, at the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth, riiiiight? :D

So I'll start at Genesis, and see how far I get before I get bored with myself.

First off: What up with Lilith?

It's impossible to get the full story unbiased or full, but I've known the basics for a long time. Most Christians don't even realize it exists, though I believe some Jewish denominations still teach about Lilith.

"Adam and Lilith never found peace together; for when he wished to lie with her, she took offence at the recumbent posture he demanded. 'Why must I lie beneath you?' she asked. 'I also was made from dust, and am therefore your equal.' Because Adam tried to compel her obedience by force, Lilith, in a rage, uttered the magic name of God, rose into the air and left him."

So there are two schools of thought on Lilith: That she's a feminist hero, or that she's the biblical explanation for women not being equals.

For me, it's a little in-between... rather, it's both. I think Lilith is a tool. That she begins with feminine qualities that one can relate with; sexual inequality and mistreatment. And then all the sudden, she's off on her little baby-killing escapades.

It's like when your parents tell you that if you watch a PG13 movie or fail to recite the Lord's Prayer daily, soon you'll be drinking people's blood and living as a prostitute. They don't correlate even vaguely, but be damned if the thought doesn't scare you.

Now as a contrast, think about Eve. She's made from Adam's rib, when we all know that she could have been made from dust. This, in my mind, signifies her inferiority in the eyes of "God". She submits to Adam willingly. Gee. Huh. Golly.

These are Christian role models for life. A woman who wanted equal status and was cursed for it, and a submissive woman made from a rib who is blessed with what Lilith longed for; children. And of course Adam, who we all know was %$*$&%*ing the animals.

The End. :D

You should be glad. I can warn you about a brother in law of mine - raised in Alabama - who had to be asked by his daddy to please quit botherin' the hens. Apparently they quit laying (no pun intended).

Oh geesh... Should I be frightened that you know this, Mr. Hosie?

Nowdays it's politely referred to as "bothering the livestock." :)

Lilith is not in the Christian bible, but her reputation is quite formidable. Interesting read if you're bored is Wikipedia's write-up.

You say that like it's a bad thing...

The desert religions love to subjugate women. So your analysis and comparison of the Lilith and Eve stories I think holds water. Good job.

Well its apparent this GOD didnt give out brains. I mean seriously...hot naked chick wants to get down but you bitch about who gets to be on top. Only a moron would believe this story has any validity. A true man wouldn't give a damn who was in what position, especially whose on top...hell that would've been less work for him after all.

Wow, I gotta say Lilith wasn't in my bible. Is she in the Catholic one?

You know she just wanted reverse cowgirl :)
