Last weekend I visited Hannibal, Mo. the home of Mark Twain. It was an enjoyable trip with a lot to do in that small town. As you might expect, they largely exist off of Twain tourism. I found it amusing however, that in five buildings of Twain memorabilia and quotes, they did not manage to display one quote that was critical of religion. Twain, who criticized religion relentlessly has no anti religious quotes. He practically made his living off of religious criticism. It is like writing about Shakespeare's comedies and ignoring all the tragedies. Its all about marketing. Too many fundies might be offended by the real Twain. It just contributes to the dumbing of America when one of our greatest writers is white washed - and Twain knew something about white washing!
