I'm an ex mormon. I was raised in a VERY mormon family in a VERY mormon state. I started questioning the LDS religion when I was 13. I was told that I had to go to church every sunday or I would get kicked out of my house. At 18 I couldn't handle it anymore, so I kicked myself out of my parent's house and struggled with my lack of faith. At 23 I gathered the nerve and sent in my resignation letter and had my records officially removed. My mother didn't talk to me for 2 years. She said she felt like I had killed someone by having my name removed. It was hard. Very hard and this probably has affected me with regards to the LDS church. I have a very visceral knee-jerk reaction when I deal with Mormonism.
Which leads me to my question...
Does it bother anyone but me that Mitt Romney is a Mormon? Hell, I'm not fond of religion in general, but the fact that this guy could be president, and he's basically guided by some old bag living in downtown SLC really terrifies me. I mean, this potentially gives the Profit (erm... Prophet) a HUGE increase in political power (in a round-about way). This really frightens me.
Am I overthinking things?
(If you comment, please don't be harsh. I'm honestly just wondering what others think, because this seems to be something no one really wants to talk about in my neck of the woods.)
