My Favorite Documentary On Religion: Bill Maher's Religulous

I'm a fan of Bill Maher.

Even though he does come across occasionally as too much of a fundamentalist.

But, this documentary shows him playing a fairly even handed, rational role in investigating Religion.

This brings up another strange case.

Many Christians and even some atheists think all Muslims seek world domination by Islam.

Wrong? Derrr!

Many Muslims I have met in Australia fled Siria, Iran and Pakistan, because they were Muslim, but of the wrong sect.  There are many who were persecuted for being Shiite in Sunni dominated regions.

They came to a realization that living in an Islamic country provided no peace.

They strongly prefer to live in a secular country like Australia and dread living in an entirely Islamic nation, as they are mostly highly educated, rational Muslims who still believe in Allah, yet know full well, that religion should not interfere with politics.

So, not all Muslims seek to live in an Islamic nation.

That is a propaganda based stereotype.

Bill Maher has often been criticized for going too far, and occasionally he does.

Some of my Christian friends see him as an Atheist Fundamentalist, because his derision of Christianity went too far in some of his skits.

Though I understand that Maher was attacking Christian and Muslim Fundamentalists, but it seemed to those friends that he was attacking ordinary Christians and Muslims.

That is when he appears to be an Atheist Fundamentalist.

Even though he is not.

He is very even handed in that movie, but some of his comedy skits do go a bit too far.

But, I think that is when he is at his funniest.

Like his joke on Islam.

Maher stated "Islam is a religion of peace: There is a piece of you over there and a piece of you over here."

Now, ordinary Muslims are offended by such comments, as are some of my Muslim friends who really do want world peace and are happy if it is achieved under a secular government, they know it cannot happen under a Christian government, nor an Islamic government, as they fled Iran and Pakistan for that reason, there is no peace there, even for Muslims.

I really like Bill because he's an equal opportunity asshole - he calls it like he sees it and gives shit to anyone he thinks deserves it.

I wish he would produce a sequel.
