MY inspiration for joining the group is a quote from the show, "Firefly" by River Tam to the preacher named Book.

"Firefly: Jaynestown (#1.4)" (2002)

Book:   What are we up to, sweetheart? River Tam:   Fixing your Bible. Book:   I, um... [alarmed] Book:   What? River Tam:   Bible's broken. Contradictions, false logistics - doesn't make sense. [she's marked up the bible, crossed out passages and torn out pages] Book:   No, no. You-you-you can't... River Tam:   So we'll integrate non-progressional evolution theory with God's creation of Eden. Eleven inherent metaphoric parallels already there. Eleven. Important number. Prime number. One goes into the house of eleven eleven times, but always comes out one. Noah's ark is a problem. Book:   Really? River Tam:   We'll have to call it early quantum state phenomenon. Only way to fit 5000 species of mammal on the same boat. [rips out page]
Book:   River, you don't fix the Bible. River:   It's broken. It doesn't make sense.

Suzi, you have made an excellent point for joining. I had all but forgotten the brief glow of Firefly. Thank you.

Thank you, Loren, It sounds like Fox is out of touch or is more focused on leading the parade by telling people what is right and what is wholesome for America. Either way Firefly was the perfect fill in the vacuum of space related Sci-Fi. It is regrettable that it landed in then hands of Fox to be killed. I wish the contracts would contain a production clause that would revert ownership so it could be produced else were to protect the art for the public.

Fact is, Jon, Fox screwed up Firefly BADLY.  They didn't show the episodes in order and barely promoted the show at all.  Then, after airing 11 episodes, they canned it.  Not long after, they released the four-DVD set of the 14 shows that had been produced ... whereupon it became one of the hottest selling items on Amazon EVER.

Fox ain't just stupid about news, people.  In places, Fox is stupid, PERIOD.

I thought Firefly would be a sure thing, but at that time no one was wanting to rebel against any ruling body in the name of freedom, and I guess Firefly seemed to promote ideas of lost independence at a wrong time.

Book:   River, you don't fix the Bible. River:   It's broken. It doesn't make sense. The simple truth that underlays the complex apologetics that try desperately to hide it from observable reality as lies abscess like a boil to remove truth from reason.

I loved that show, to bad it was cut.

That particular part, I also remember well. I think she summed it up fairly well.

Using the bible as a history book is the same as using Grimm's Fairy Tales, Faith in anything set in stone is admitting you can not grow as a person.

Leave it to Joss Whedon (yet another atheist!) to put stuff like that out there!
