Now, I love SciFi, or SyFy, or whatever... I love it a lot. They put out a lot of really interesting shows and I wait eagerly for the new Stargate -- but -- why do they keep entertaining the curiosities of idiots?

I'm talking about Ghost Hunters, its spin off Ghost Hunters: International, and something painfully similar, Destination Truth.

I have to ask myself, 'Do they ever get tired of finding nothing?' I mean, honestly, they never find anything. Joshua Gates, the host of Destination Truth, seems to know that he's going nowhere. His sardonic tone seems to betray a degree of skepticism. Regardless, they just never find anything. What's worse, it doesn't even seem like they learn anything.

They don't attempt to change their procedures, just repeat them until, I suppose, they find something.

Have any one of you ever put up with those kinds of shows?

I don't remember which "ghost hunter" group it was, but I know one of them with a tv show (isn't it sad that doesn't narrow it down?) actually do it to skeptically investigate, and if necessary debunk the claims. However, what goes on in editing isn't always in their control...if you've ever heard of or listened to Randi Rhodes she had them on, jokingly, about the ghost of Michael Jackson.

This is one of my pet peeves. Not so much the hunting itself (although 'm kind of fond of monster quest) but the televising of it. If I have to listen to one more diatribe about how ghosts are real and how they just looove ghost hunters because they have experienced the same things as in the show I will get fired for calling my coworker a moron. ^_^ I REALLY detest the direction that Cartoon Network has gone with all of the reality bullshit, but the worse is the ghost hunter-ish show they made for little kids. My children certainly wouldn't be watching it.

You're right, I would kill for a job whose description was: "EXPLORE!"

I'm a big fan of Monster Quest on the History Channel. I love cryptozoology, even though 99.9% of it is bullshit. Lately though Monster Quest has started searching for creatures that are ACTUALLY KNOWN TO EXIST. White sperm whales and giant squid, for example. Plus there was that one time MQ actually accomplished something. They were investigating tales of giant killer sharks. At the end of the show they discovered that the "killer" was actually a harmless whale shark. *thumbs up* Great job, MQ! You solved a local mystery while scoring awesome wildlife footage!

I also watch MQ for a particular biologist who comes on the show every now and then. He's got a mohawk and a creepy stare. His catch phrase is, "It's a dog with mange." (Well, that's what I'd like it to be)

Sometimes I catch Ghost Hunters at night and watch it for kicks. I'm just so jelous that these guys get paid to goof around in spooky houses with all the lights turned off. That's my dream, damnit!
