On The Incident In Orlando – Seth Andrews and Kaveh Mousavi

Every now and then, Seth Andrews will ignore his to-do list and publish an unscheduled podcast when his mindset or an event demands it.  It should surprise no one, then, that Seth has produced a piece couching his own thoughts regarding what happened at the Pulse nightclub and all the reactions, reasonable and otherwise.  The YouTube version of that podcast follows here.

I wanted to draw attention, though, to an important segment of that piece.  Toward the end, Seth reads the Patheos blog of one Kaveh Mousavi, the nom de plume of an Iranian ex-Muslim who has some well-conceived thoughts of his own regarding the witch's brew of influences which gave rise to the events of 12 June.  I was sufficiently impressed with Kaveh's entry that I thought it deserved further exposure and thus my own blog entry.  If you haven't time for Seth's full podcast, at least have a look at Orlando Shooting: The Sinful Executioner.  I firmly believe it is worth your time.

Orlando Shooting: The Sinful Executioner was definitely worth a read -- thanks!

And I've used listentoyoutube.com to grab the podcast audio, to listen to in the car later.

I agree, Daniel.  Most it not all of what happened in Orlando confirms where I already stand:  supporting LGBTQ people and leery of Islam.

Some time ago I said that the problem with priests sexually abusing children would have to primarily be solved by catholics themselves, by conveying in utterly certain terms that the behavior of certain members of the church was not only not acceptable but would not be tolerated.  I think the very same thing is true of Islam.  It will take ordinary Muslims getting together and saying, "Enough is ENOUGH," and doing so repeatedly before we'll see any meaningful movement on the issue of radical Islam.  The primary obstacle is ennui and indifference.  Just how that social inertia is to be overcome, I do not know.

I just hope it doesn't take another large-scale terrorist incident to get people moving.
