I know, I know... i skipped the 'indivisible' bit, but I think it's pretty clear this country can be divided. Especially on grounds of race and religion here in good old Ala-damn-bama. Anyway, I sent out an e-mail to a few members of my family today I was so giddy about Obama's nomination. I guess you could say I am tickled pink! (<-- I can get away with this phrase, I'm from the South ;P )
Yes WE did! I am proud of my country for the first time in my adult life, and glad that I was a part of this history-making event. The rest of the world is cheering with us today. Now I don't have to worry about my reproductive rights, and I'll worry much less about my future childrens' education standards (especially science!) :) There is a long, tough journey ahead of us, but, as Tennyson said in his great poem 'Ulysses':
"...that which we are, we are:
One equal temper of heroic hearts, made weak by time and fate, but strong in will to strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield."
We must strive for equality, seek knowledge, find happiness, and never yield to those who would divide us. Yes we can!
With best wishes for the future,
I find the repetition of the 'yes we can' phrase a bit weird, but it is a damn good slogan for an America that has been so 'meh who cares' for the last 8 years! Well, there's my 2 cents. YAY AMERICA!
