My mother posted a status update on facebook that states:
" DON'T BUY THE PATRIOTIC PEPSI CAN coming out with pictures of the Empire State Building, and the Pledge of Allegiance on them.Pepsi left out two little words on the pledge,"Under God."...Pepsi said they didn't want to offend anyone. So, if we don't buy then they will not be offended when they don't receive our money th...at has the words 'In God We Trust' ..... HOW FAST CAN YOU REPOST"
I am infinitely annoyed and embarrassed that my mom would post something like that online even as a 25 year old. I retorted:
""Under God" wasn't added to the pledge until 1954 and added to the money between 1957-1966 therefore its a relatively recent addition. It also violates the first amendment which states that "the government will not respect the establishment of religion". " and
"Why is it a requisite for Pepsi to be faithful? The opinions and beliefs of a beverage have never affected anyone drinking it before; why now does it matter? All the praying in the world isn't going to shut Pepsi down or even really affect its sales."
I'm not a huge fan of Pepsi but this is childish adn absolutely ridiculous. I just wanted to leave this gem.
