A while back we were standing in line in Costco and we look over and standing in a nearby line is an older fellow in a peculiar outfit. He was wearing cargo pants made out of a fabric with the American Navy logo all over it. He had white hair and a white handlebar moustache (to give you an idea of what I meant by "older fellow"). He was also sporting a white t-shirt with the following on the front in large letters:

"God Fearing
Gun Owning
Any Questions?"

My wife, after reading said shirt and noting that I had also read it, leaned over and said to me, "Yeah, I have a question... Why not save everyone the time of reading all of that and just wear a shirt that says, 'Hi, I'm an asshole.'?"

Yeah. I love my wife.

A few weeks ago I saw an SUV with a similar window sticker, along the lines of "Heterosexual Christian gun-owning Republican. How else can I piss you off today?"

(That's related to the mind trick of some religions teaching, "You will be persecuted. That's never a sign that maybe you're doing something wrong, it's a sign that you're doing something right, and even if this bundle of interconnected beliefs and behaviors is grossly maladaptive, making your life hell on earth, don't worry, everything will be just fine in heaven. Up is down! Black is white! Night is day!")

The other side of the window had a graphic inspired by the ones representing the person's family, but instead of the stick figures of mommy and daddy and kids and maybe the dog or cat, were five or six guns, going from rifles down to handguns.

Granted, being straight isn't a choice, and people's neurobiology does strongly influence their core values and fears... I still don't think pro-life anti-abortion, anti-LGBTIQ*, strongly religious, politically right-wing gun enthusiasts would appreciate being told "It's not your fault you feel that way. But you can control yourself; you don't have to act on those desires"!

And "Gun-Owning" goes with "Pro-Life" exactly how?...
