Religious laws being encoded in Tennessee

We have to find another place to live. Tennessee is getting more and more like a religious theocracy run by bigotted morons.

We have the don't say gay law which would make it impossible to discuss anything about homosexuality in school.

A couple of weeks ago we had the potty police bill which was supposed to limit people to the bathroom of the gender they were born in.

Last year we had bills proposed to the state congress which would exempt bullying behavior if the people doing the bullying were religious.

Matthew Shepard's father addressed the laws in front of the state congress and said that exemptions were going to cause more bullying.

Guess what the reaction was to that.

The Republicans put another and new version of the same law on the list of things to vote on. They introduced a new bill covering the same thing that two other bills had already addressed.

We are starting to think that Massachusetts sounds good.

I've been to TN many times. I'd have to agree with you.

I say, get onto I81 and drive north until you reach some reasonable people.

And I'll wave as you pass by, because there certainly aren't many around here either.

i know Loren, and it IS scary.  the lack of humanity simply confounds me.  i'd say it makes me  ashamed to be an American, but really, it makes me ashamed to be a human being.  the world of the (non human) animal often seems peaceful and serene by comparison, and that's after acknowledging the violence and suffering in Nature.

Matthew, have you ever heard of the God Helmet?

"The God Helmet experiments were also intended to validate the idea that religious and mystic experiences are artifacts of temporal lobe function"

What it is, Matthew, is a bunch of people who prioritize their belief over anything else. What they would ordinarily think is overridden by their irrational faith.

Genuinely scary.

can of worms wide open.  it's difficult to fathom how a person endowed with a brain could disregard their own cerebral cortex.  scientists need to look into this, as it could be a new chapter in human evolution.  information comes into the brain, reaches the cerebral cortex, but before processing can occur it gets re-routed to the olfactory glands where the subject "smells" the homosexual and is repulsed by the odor, hence legislation such as this occurs.  or they are just idiots.

Seems to me they were also considering teaching (un)Intelligent Design in their public schools as well.  No denying that Tennessee wants to be stupid.
