The kid and most atheists miss the point. You can argue the historical impact of religion. You can demonstrate to the ignorant adherent that they belong to a filthy mucous-laden cult.
While I agree with him if he is speaking of arguing with them for the sake of converting them, I am forced to disagree if he means that in a more general sense. If they attempt to put the Bible back in school, I would debate them and if they can't support their position with empirical evidence, their idea of putting the Bible into the schools is thrown out. The same goes for deriving laws from the Bible. If they can't back their position up with a third party that has nothing to do with religion, they fail and then the Bible is kept out of the law system.
I've mentioned this quote once or twice on here, and I can't see that one more will hurt:
It is impossible to debate a person who will not handicap himself with a knowledge of the facts.
