Nature has some key dualisms and we know that humans have many dualisms (most of them man-made). The Cartesian Dualism is a significant man-made dualistic concept separating mind (psyche) and body (soma). This mind-body split continues to be a major worldview for many people. However, the Abrahamic religions take this mind-body split and turn it into a dualistic spirit-body split. The spirit-body split has dramatically divided the spiritual world from the material world, and has given us the worldview of super-naturalism. Supernaturalism makes spirit superior to the physical <-----> superior to the natural. It was exactly this spirit-body split that profoundly complicated and hampered my ability to experience Nature, human nature, and most sadly my own nature. The concept of supernaturalism has done alot of damage to human beings.

Do what Big Bang cosmologists do; assume the existence of what you need.

Bangers assumed the existence of dark matter and for eighty five years we taxpayers have been subsidizing their not-yet-successful searches for it.

Assume you have a soul to kick around.

Loren quoted Hitchens: What can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.
Welcome, Loren, to post-BB cosmology. Check out the evidence for the EU.

Frankie, STOP YOUR LONG-TERM PLOTTING. Direct your efforts at rewards you can enjoy before you become worm food.

Yes i am off meds and in a state of ultra-clarity. Other than buddhist monks it is a rarity.  To see things with  clarity and celerity a shining verity; my mantra, soul is verily and ascertainably albeit remotely visible certainty as dependable and unupendable as Newton's and Putin's rootin tootin democratic friend is hootin.

Tsk tsk tsk ... Frankie's off his meds again! [wry chuckle!]

I can't prove that Thor doesn't exist, either ... or Brahma, Vishnu, & Shiva ... or a left-handed zindlefinger ... but at least the Null Hypothesis gives me some relief from the uncounted things which don't exist but are posited from someone's imagination.  It's been said multiple times, but I especially like the following:

What can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.
-- Christopher Hitchens ["Hitchens' Razor"]

Oh, and as it comes to purpose, mine is making use of NOW – to learn, to grow, and to help others – because NOW is all we have, and in the final analysis, it's a lot.

You naysayers are willful and deceitful in your knee jerk atheistic mindset.

You can't prove the soul does not exist. People have believed in souls for centuries on end!  Now are you going to tell me they are all mistaken? There must be substance to the soul or else it would not be such a widespread fact.

Think about how pointless our lives are if we are ultimately worm food. All that effort for what? Therefore the soul provides a mechanism for life to continue into eternity and then in a much better place than this insane planet earth. So stop spreading propaganda, lies and most of all removing hope.

Loren, you have the correct model. I find it amazing when others want to believe differently and they are talking about an unconscious body that has not moved or went anywhere. This borders on the bizarre when the religious see a body lowered into the ground at a cemetery and someone claims the person is in heaven now.

My response to the whole dualism / spirit / soul / whatever-have-you is this: until you can substantiate spirit or soul or whatever you want to call it (which to date NO ONE has done), you're wasting my time.  Consciousness and personality, insofar as I can tell, are the Operating System which runs on our brains.  It is not a THING but a PROCESS ... and when the brain fails, the process fails along with it.

And until someone comes up with a better model, that's mine.

Having studied it in my past I can agree with your every world. Bible thumpers want to say you have a spirit that god gave you. This idea comes from a fear of death along with not understanding the realms of sleep. Then there are stupid passages of scripture by Paul where he could not tell "whether he was in or out of his body." Why would anyone believe this man if he was that ignorant? I cannot believe anything Supernatural. To say there is a supernatural is only to say you have some things you do not understand.
