Steal this PAGE! (Why it is great to be an Atheist)

I was inspired to create this after reading this list on Pamela Townsend's page:

in fact the bulleted list is almost verbatim from her page. Also I've had a few chats with people about counter-propaganda and how to go about it. Stickers, pamphlets etc.

The second half is much more specific / about me.

I encourage everyone to steal this idea - and even the page and make it your own!

add a cartoon or links to your blog, favourite quotes!

Hand it to the people who try to pimp their beliefs at your front door, leave it on the subway, post it on the grocery store bulletin board, make tons of copies and do whatever you want with them!

What is so great about being an

I get to live my life based on:

- Reason not superstition
- Ethics not dogma
- Respect not worship
- Courage not fear
- Fact not myth
- Morality not religion
- Clarity not delusion
- Good not god
- Skepticism not cynicism
- Pragmatism not ideology

I do my best to be the best I can and live a life I can respect because this is my One Chance to get it right.

I treat people as I would like to be treated because it is the right thing to do; no one had to tell me to do this. Our common humanity is stronger than any fairy tale, nationality or skin pigment.

As an Atheist I know I can be ‘good’ or ‘bad’ –it is my choice. I am in control. I am not a pawn on a giant imaginary chess board; this forces me to take responsibility for my own actions. I cannot pass the buck to god or the boogey-man.

I put my hands to work solving problems because hands clasped in prayer achieve nothing.

I am happy, I love and cherish and I am loved and cherished in return by the real people that I share my life with. My life is complete here – now.

Great idea!

I think if I do this I might have two versions. One for the in-your-face, you're-burning-in-hell types who are spewing hatred (which would include things like references to the boogeyman or great spook in the sky) and one for people who are less in your face and seem like they're actually trying to save you (which would focus on the explanation and reasons why I reject god and choose atheism).

I think what you posted is a middle ground between the two, so maybe I would have one like that ready too if I didn't know which type of person it was who was trying to convert me! :-)

That's great, I think I will make my own version. Thanks for the inspiration.
