Religion easily has the best bullshit story of all time. Think about it.
Religion has convinced people that there’s an invisible man…living in the sky.
He watches everything you do every minute of every day.
And the invisible man has a list of ten specific things he doesn’t want you to do.
And if you do any of these things, he will send you to a special place, of burning and fire and smoke and torture and anguish for you to live forever, and suffer, and burn, and scream, until the end of time.
He makes you beg him for everything and begging has a fancy name....Prayer.
But he loves you. He loves you. He loves you and he needs lots of money.

Carlin was far more genius than his time has given him credit for. He saw quite clearly through all kinds of bullshit that humans create to ease their perceived suffering.

But Surya, religion is more than just christianity, and it is more than just a deceptive story that convinces people of silly things. Religion is what allows people to reconcile themselves to the idea that they are out of their own control. This core truth that creeps into our minds as our experiences add up is so horrifying that people will do and think anything they can to get away from it. Religion puts the onus on God: it says 'I am out of control because God has control, but God loves me, so it's okay. The universe will still do right by me.'

But the universe will not do right by us, nor does it share its power. We are helpless slaves to existence, bound in chains of causality that cannot be broken or diverted. And where religion fails to blind us to this, science seeks to place a different kind of visor over our eyes. The scientist clings equally to his illusion of power, just as the theist does, convinced that if he can just ask enough questions and find enough answers, all will become clear and controlled. This is fallacy of the same order as religion provides. There is no limit to questions, and no limit to answers, that we could ever conquer them all. Reality has no smallest part that, once mastered, will give us control of all things. It has no certain truth that, once grasped, will shed light on all the mysteries. There is no such thing as knowledge or progress. man is a bug treading water, and each of us will eventually drown, no matter our faith or logic.
