Likely you're thinking about Inherit the Wind, with Spencer Tracy and Frederic March, which was a fictionalized dramatization of the Scopes "Monkey Trial." You can find clips of the movie on YouTube, the following being possibly the most powerful of the bunch:
Sir, I have watched the PBS documentary on Youtube :) wasn't a movie also made on the same thing? Or maybe it was on the Scopes Monkey Trial? I'm not sure. Intelligent Design is not very popular in India as much as it is in America, so I was a bit surprised when I heard this come up in the debate I was part of. Anyway, thank you for your comments. Appreciate it :)
Something you should be aware about if you aren't already: a trial was held in a Federal court in 2005 - Kitzmiller v Dover - wherein an attempt was made to introduce the teaching of intelligent design to the Dover Area School District and was contested by a number of the science teachers of that school system. The PBS television series NOVA produced an excellent documentary on the circumstances surrounding this event as well as the trial itself.I recommend it highly.
