The Correlation Between Religion and Disrespectfulness

So I was having a tactful debate on a website with creationists and it was very orderly but just like any debate with creationist was like talking to a wall. I quoted Carl Sagan and this douchebag (I don't have a better word for him) retorted "If you could talk to Carl now he would tell you what the Christians tell you, repent and turn to Jesus because there is a Hell!" verbatim. I could only reply "oh really? well that is one of the most disrespectful things I have heard in a long time." Carl Sagan was a wonderful humanist that supported furthering ones knowledge about the universe.

(I'm going to use christians since that's what is most encountered for me)

I have noticed a strong correlation between christians and disrespectfulness. when they feel threatened they are out for blood. Their arguments can be compared with those of an 8 year old. I like to call it the "your momma" mentality. It truly shows a lack of intelligence when your only comeback is to attack a dead man because he makes you feel wrong or threatened. Things like this increase my disdain for religion ten-fold.

I'm so mad I want to grab the douche by the ears scream '"fuck you!" in his face and then headbutt him into oblivion.

FUCK! Religious people are just plain stupid as rocks, and that's giving them the benefit of the doubt.

The correlation between religion and intelligence is pretty much non existant, especially since they base their knowledge and philosophy on fairy tales that people made up.

Hey! Now Adam, are you being disrespectful towards rocks, are you? At least they do the best they can with the intelligence they have. No intelligence to use. No intelligence used... that is operating at 100 percent. Theists have a massive evolutionary advantage over rocks. Sadly they flush most of it down the drain by using their brains as paper weights. :P

I really think they get defensive when you back them into a logical corner because ... I mean really, what options do they have left at that point? Somewhere in there they realize they are losing and they do what they have to do since admitting they are wrong is impossible - they attack.

I think this is actually an extension of their own dogma. Talk to any hardcore christian long enough and you will find that they are so skilled (brainwashed) in doublethink that they truly do not understand that a "loving" god who also willingly sends people to a place like "hell" are completely incompatible. I have, on occasion, seen a bumper sticker around town that reads, "If you're living like there is no God, you'd BETTER BE RIGHT!" Yet I'd be willing to bet that if asked, the person who drives the car would not in the least see such a blatant threat as being incompatible with their concept of a "loving God."

It is a deep rooted staple of the christian church to rule by fear and to verbally condemn anyone who opposes their ideas to their fictional "hell." I actually find it rather amusing that they are so backwards as to think that people who disagree (on solid reason, evidence and logic) with them are somehow disrespecting them, yet somehow fail to see that condemning someone to hell for that act is in itself horribly disrespectful.

Of course, the same goes for Islam as well, though they don't just get pissy. They actually try to kill you for it (and often succeed if you're in a country that is under Sharia Law). Scary stuff for sure.

Really though, the point to remember is that religious people in general are so well schooled in doublethink that half the time they have no concept of just how insulting, threatening, and hateful their own comments are. But if those same comments were made toward them in regards to their not believing some OTHER religion, they'd be mortally offended. It's almost funny to watch the hypocrisy, if it weren't so scary at the same time.
