Several EU governments have expressed concern over the Pope's mind-numbingly stupid and undeniably dangerous claims that using condoms could endanger public health and increase the problem of HIV/Aids.

France's foreign ministry said condoms were fundamental to prevention.

German ministers said it was irresponsible to withhold family planning from the poorest of the poor.

In Berlin, German Health Minister Ulla Schmidt and Development Minister Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul said in a joint statement: "Condoms save lives, in Europe as well as on other continents.

"Modern assistance to the developing world today must make access to family planning available to the poorest of the poor - especially the use of condoms.

"Anything else would be irresponsible."

Dutch Development Minister Bert Koenders said it was "extremely harmful and very serious" that the Pope was "forbidding people from protecting themselves".

"There is an enormous stigma surrounding the subject of Aids and Aids sufferers face serious discrimination," he added.

"The Pope is making matters worse."

Condoms are one of the methods proven to stop the spread of HIV and the Pope's position underlines - yet again - the way in which religious leaders see their dogmas as being more important than people's lives. People like the Pope who are able to cause a great deal of harm while having nothing useful to say should be treated with all of the contempt that they deserve.

I guess according to the pope its better for people to die. Here we have a device that prevents 100% the spread of STD's and pregnancies I might add when used the proper way...and here we are in 2009 suggesting the condoms make it worse. I could even go so far as to understand bringing back chastity belts to a degree, after all if you can't get in either you got nothing to worry about.

But whats supposed to make a person abstinent. Just sit there and pray that masturbation will be enough and that the thought of the real thing with an actual woman or male partner doesnt overwhelm the senses?? Ohh but thats right according to holy mother church you're not supposed to masturbate or have thoughts about sex in the first place. It's amazing how celibate men want to tell the rest of us what to do in our sex lives and whats a healthy sexual practice.

I think the Pope qualifies as the Anti-Christ.

The pope is an idiot. I hope he keeps acting like a tard so the Catholic church will lose followers. Anyone who is a Catholic should be ashamed of his actions.

I wonder how much longer it will be before the Papacy (sp?) just implodes under the weight of its own decay.
Sorry to be so fundamentally ignorant, but I hope that there are other aid groups out there trying to counteract such a destructive proclamation.
