These "Power Lanes" Could Charge An E-Bike (And Phone) As You Ride

When I traveled throughout Europe and Asia, bikes often outnumbered cars, especially in downtown areas. Huge loads could be carried on bikes, even whole families rode along on a single bike. It was odd to see a pig or a goat on a bicycle and no one seemed to notice, except we US travelers.

"Most of the world's electric bikes--especially the 30 million produced each year in China--still use lead batteries. In China, lead production has caused mass poisonings, and recycling often causes even more problems when toxic wastewater is dumped in rivers. Though alternative batteries are becoming more common, they also have their own issues with manufacturing and disposal."

I haven't been on a bike for at least 60 or 65 years; perhaps I should start with a tricycle.

Interesting thought.

Though costly to implement, and maintain (someone has to pay the electric bill), it would be interesting in good weather.

Alas the 'EMF is evil' luddites would be torn (hehehehe)

I've carried 80 pounds on my bicycle up hills, and the bike itself with rack and baskets weighs maybe 35 pounds.  I get a bit of a workout, that's all :)
