This week the tickets from Kuala Lumpur to Paris are only $297 USD at the time of my pilgrimage so it's about time to make the jump and buy a ticket...(!) And, oh damn, it means spending a couple days in KL!
If this pilgrimage goes as planned, I'm looking at a couple days in Malaysia, a couple weeks in Italy, a quick peek at Vatican City to see what all the fuss is about, France, a half-way break in Andorra, Spain, and exit via the Netherlands. I'm going to be studying up up the history (and some language for these places) so expect to be filled in. I used to always get annoyed when I asked someone what country the went to and they said "Europe." I wanted details, not a continent! Now I understand. European countries are so squished together it seems like it's hard not to visit several, hell I'll be walking through two!
Yes, I did say walking. The funny thing is that the more I plan for this, the more I actually want to do the pilgrimage properly. Part of the idea of a pilgrimage is actually elected for a physical hardship and maybe doing it by bike is cheating. As an atheist I don't have to worry about answering to any higher power than myself and the TSA assholes, but there is such a Camino community and I think it might actually be a better idea to do it on foot and in the non-John Adams direction.
Finally, I don't think I'm going to continue doing my Freethinking News segments, at least not with weekly regularity if I do. I have way too many things to do in preparation for my pilgrimage and even a hastily-prepared one like last week's takes a lot of time.
