Time for a lil Blog Fun: Star Wars or Star Trek

So.. I decided to take a lil break from my usual smart ass remarks and political banter to cause some real trouble! :)

I bring this up because I saw the latest installment of Star Trek yesterday, and aside from a few problems I had with it (that I wont mention here for those who havent seen it yet)... I think the movie was mostly pretty brilliant.

I have officially seen every Star Trek movie.. and every Star Wars movie.

So here is my question for my fellow non-believers -

Which is better.. .Star Trek.. or Star Wars?

Now allow me to grab plenty of popcorn to enjoy these responses. :)

May the force be with you and live long and prosper!

Lord Scarab: What's scarier than those scorpion-looking-things that Khaaaaaaaaan put in Chekhov's and Capt. Clark Terrell's ears in "The Wrath of Khan"?

Justin Pearson Smith: I have two words for you from the Trek universe: "space anomaly".

Creature: DS9 is my favorite, too.

Woody Bass: I would NEVVVVER do sucha thing.

Well, that's good to see. We already have enough bloodbaths on AN.

If they'd stuck to the original three Star Wars movies, I'd have gone with Star Wars. However once they brought Jar Jar into the mix, made Darth Vader a wimp, and Padme died of a broken heart(despite Leia mentioning remembering her as a small child in Jedi), it lost any superiority to the unabashed cheese in the Treks.

So yeah Trek, and I don't care what anyone says, DS9 was probably the best series.

I too prefer Star Trek, although Babylon 5 trumps all. Star Trek just has a much greater wealth of material to draw upon. Also it explores science fiction concepts in greater depth as well as ethical issues. Star Wars is filled with scientific mistakes and inaccuracies.

Heh. Are you trying to start WWIII? One of the funniest skits I'd seen in a while was performed by the folks who do Shadowbox Cabaret in Columbus, Ohio back in November of last year. They'd turned "West Side Story" into a musical with dueling "Star Wars" and "Star Trek" fans.

Despite having seen "Star Wars" in the cinema about 14 times when I was a teenager, I favor the Trek universe.

I love Roddenberry's humanistic vision for the Star Trek universe. I love the idea of the Federation, and the Vulcan philosophy of ""Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations".
