Well we did it! Despite seemingly
homophobic issues from a few members of our group, diminishing funds and
last minute issues, the Greensboro Atheist Organization got a booth at
the LGBT pride festival here in Greensboro, NC. Yay! Our first outreach
booth- and it was a whopping success. It drew more participants from the
group than almost any other meeting and got people excited as well as
getting several new members that same day on our meetup group. Just as I
suspected, there were many who deeply appreciated seeing an atheist
booth amid half a dozen church booths and we had a few really great in
depth conversations (despite the music being so loud that I had to
scream over it). I got tons of pictures plus some video of our booth,
the church booths and some of the performers- Check them out at http://www.GreensboroAtheists.com

LOL Gary LOL. Maybe you could post in the forum about how women have caused more pornography and prostitution. Please educate me. I'm sure others would be interested in seeing your reasoning.

Heather, the "Bearded dragons exist!" person sounds like someone who set out to waste your time from the very beginning. Some people get off on strange things.

Hahaha! The new Madonna. I think Baroness Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven beat Madonna to it. Yes, I knew she's for civil rights... kudos to her for that. She certainly has queen appeal. So much to lip sync... so little time.

Good to hear new people are joining.

Grundgetta- i think Gay may be one of those individuals for whom being an atheist doesn't necessarily equate critical thinking skills. But yeah- i do have to pick my battles more as I'm finding more and more ridiculous people taking up too much of my time. I've spent three days debating someone who was arguing with me that dragons really existed just to eventually say "oh, i meant like bearded dragons and such" Biggest waste of my time ever.

I've heard some people refer to lady gaga as the new Madonna- pushing limits with her own brand of uniqueness and ability to not care what anyone thinks about it. She's also very much for LGBT rights. So perhaps that's it. Although this was the first gaga drag performance I've seen so I was fascinated- lol

Also- many of the people who fervently fought against having a booth have left but we got more new people from having the booth so it all worked out :D since doing the booth we've had new people joining every single day! woohoo!

My apologies. I withdraw my remark that suggests that women (or men) could have anything to do with what they do. LOL. Best Wishes.

Heather - I'm not a fan of Lady Gaga too. I suppose I'm not a fan at all. I don't dislike her, but her music doesn't speak to me. I think some of her outfits are interesting, but some of her videos remind me of college students learning about Dadaism for the first time. Maybe if I watched them all, I'd find something I like.

But... yes... I find the fascination of queens for GaGa fascinating.

I also find it interesting the people that your posts about having a booth at Pride have drawn out of the woodwork.

Woohoo, Gary even found a way to blame women for "so much porno and prostitution". Well done!

I don't know about you, Heather, but I find my time to be very limited these days, so I respond very selectively to forum/blog posts. I just don't have time to entertain everything.

Heather, You'll find out the answers to those questions as soon as you decide you want to know, but not when pride is defending your ideas. Watch the cities and see what happens!! With pride, you'll blame the destruction on other things of course. Women have made necessary advances in many arenas, but it is very obvious to many people, that women have gone very far backwards in the last century, and are continuing in that direction. And then they wonder why there's so much porno and prostitution... Anyway, it's nothing personal against you, but watch the "character" of the all the cities, and see if I'm not 100% correct.

@Gary Huckleberry -what the hell? No one's supposed to be proud of anything, ever? Besides- pride festivals aren't even about "pride" so much as lack of shame or fear- it's what motivates people to continue to push for equal rights.. women's rights and civil rights would never had made it without pride marches and rallies and the motivation to keep going despite the discrimination, police brutality, and sometimes physical threats to their families and their lives. How is it negative OR self abusing? I find it very sad that you feel that way.. and very glad that everyone else doesn't.

Any kind of pride is a very negative self-abusive thing, and will lead to the downfall of every major city in the world. I hope I am wrong... Let's watch the cities and see!

Grundgetta- you noticed that was the longest performance, eh? lol... i have to say that i'm not a huge fan of her music and i'd never seen her perform before this (i went home and got onto da youtube) but i was so entertained by this queen's performance that i just watched it over and over! lol

Evidently someone is a Lady Ga Ga fan.
