We need a new Social Contract, by D R (Donnie) Hosie

If there is no heaven or hell after we die, if there is only nothing, the same kind of nothing that existed before we were born, then we return to nothing when we die. Therefore, it seems to me we have to make full use of what little time we have.

Realizing this is IT, that we have no second chance, no reincarnation, no opportunity to try life again, we have to make the most of this life. Each one of us is alive as only a spark of life in a long existence of the Earth and the universe.

I want every moment of my life to experience all my sense. I want to exist as a fully human being, having access to all my sensory organs. I want access to as much learning as I can possibly squeeze into my incredibly short time on the Earth. I want to be earnestly engaged in living, and in seeing that every living being has the same opportunity as I. A humongous change has to occur in culture for this to happen.

Hm-mm, who was it that said he wanted to skid sideways into his grave, completely worn out?

I may be a bit dense at times but, I sure didn't see where the article had anything do with the government interfering in my life.  If there is to be a contract, I see it being with ourselves - and not letting anyone or entity tell us what to think, least of all a government. If I believed in tatoos, I just might have this put on my arm as a constant reminder to myself.

“The meaning of life” is not some absolute – or even the same for everyone. It’s what YOU come to decide it is. AndYOU generate the sense of worth and ownership you feel, towards those social and personal values you’ve forged, on the anvil of whatever occupies your time, your interest, and your mind.

The words 'social contract' make me a bit nervous, especially since such things seem to be forced upon us.

The only contract I want is for the government to stay the hell out of my life.
