What is the craziest religious doctrine?

The Doctrine of the Trinity probably gets my vote.

Three divine things but only one. They are different beings but the same being. I suppose the history makes sense. How does one believe in the one true god and keep the historical street-cred of Judaism in 1st century Israel and Roman Empire while believing in Jesus as a god? And let's toss the Holy Spirit into the mix.

I had an interesting chat with another family member about the credibility of religious beliefs. This was some two years ago. And he said that Scientology is crazy and quoted South Park. And I agreed. However I then asked him to tell when I'm getting ridiculous. I started telling a conflated story of Jesus: virgin birth; spirit at baptism; miracles... With laughter his only comeback was that Scientology is a lot newer on the basis (presumably) that older fantasies are more credible than newer fantasies.

You can find some crazy teachings of Christ in the New Testament gospels. Jesus actually teaches that in order to become his disciple you must hate your father, mother, wife, children, brothers, sisters and your own life. Wow, so much for family values!

Also Christ taught that it is OK for people to practice self mutilation if it helps them serve him or if it keeps them from "sinning". Teaching people to pluck out their own eyes, chop off their hands, and castrate themselves is pure craziness.

I can't believe I glossed over this crazy shit as a Christian.

Many Christians believe and teach that their God punishes children for their parents sins (Generational Curses). Also, many think that innocent people are collateral damage in their God's wrath against sin. Don't believe it? Well we have some good ole Bible stories to fuel such crazy thinking. God supposedly killed all the first born males in Egypt because of Pharaoh; and God supposedly killed over 50,000 men because David did a census.

Diane Sutton said: "I also think its weird that a human sacrifice of god's son is the requirement to forgive sin."

That notion, BTW, comes straight from the heart and sould of paganism!

I also agree with Sam Chapman,

It's ridiculous that God requires a goat sacrifice for boinking your brother's wife. It's backwards. God should require you to sacrifice your brother's wife if you boink a goat.

The craziest religious doctrine has to be the Islamic doctrine of abrogation.

Who's familiar with this? I get the sense that many people know next to nothing about Islam. Well, here's the gist of the Islamic doctrine of abrogation.

If the Quran states something that is later contradicted by something else it says, then the newest statement is the REAL truth.

LoL. Is that crazy or what?

I think it's ridiculous that the god of the OT, that made the whole universe, needed a goat or sheep sacrifice if you slept w/ your brothers wife. It's crazy that there was a recipe book, of sorts, of required sacrifices and rituals for various sins. Pretty silly that a omniscient omnipresent diety would need blood to be able to forgive imperfectly made people of imperfections.

The concept of the devil and demons is plain lunacy. I literally know people who sit around rebuking the devil all the time and think he is out to get them. Its a mental disorder brought on by religion.

The idea of an immortal soul and the torture of the majority of all humans in a never ending burning hell is super crazy. I also think its weird that a human sacrifice of god's son is the requirement to forgive sin. There's just too many to pinpoint the craziest thing.
