Have any of you  really thought about it?.........Do you want to be buried in a religious  cemetery, after all the things  we say about Theists......Many of us  do want to be interred with family members...but what about those  families that have disowned  their Atheist son or daughter?......Maybe  what we need is a place  for Non Believers  to rest in peace......How about   a green funeral  where  the coffin  disintegrates  easily into the surrounding earth to enrich  new life.....I do know  The American Humanist  Association...offers  to officiate  at an Atheist/Humanist  funeral service, but not sure  if there is a cemetery  just for  us.....Something  to think about.....I would  appreciate  your  comments.....

@TheFlying Atheist,   Carl...interesting  video, but  the spokesman is trying  to tell the viewer that God  wrote the music for  the Death March since  it has  survived  through  the centuries..How can you believe  that?....I was not trying to be  so morose when righting  this blog...I have  a legitimate question that all of  us have to make and prepare for...As  a new Atheist and a senior  citizen, I have  to make  my plans  sooner  rather than later...I also  am grateful  for all the helpful comments  by my fellow members, which will determine what I decide  to do...

Just wondering aloud here, but if you're going to the expense of turning the your remaining carbon atoms into a diamond, what about being 'buried' in outer space? Apparently, there's a couple of companies - Celestis and  Elysium - that provide a service to launch one's cremated rear end into earth orbit, lunar orbit, or into deep space.

Good point. However, there are very few things in life that you can only do once, like die. People waste $20k on weddings that last a few hours, with nothing to show for them afterwards, and there's no limit to how many times one can get married.

@Future.......Being turned  into  a diamond  sounds  nice but unfortunately it is  a little  too extravagant for the ordinary  person..It was mentioned  the cost for this  procedure  is between $5000  to $20,000.....Most of us are trying  to reduce  the cost of a funeral.....I would prefer the bulk of my money  left  after  all debts are paid to go to my favorite  charities.....That makes  more sense  to me....However  good luck to you....I hope  you make  a fine  Blue Diamond....:=)

Since I probably  won't have any family  left, I am the youngest, There will be no one to give my remains to....So I am leaving  enough in my estate to cover  the expense of my cremation, if that is  what I choose  to do...

I'll probably go for Patricia's method, making sure the university will dispose of what they don't need without it costing my family anything.

@Jay H.......Unfortunately there is no cheap way, Death is a multibillion dollar  industry...Yes, even in death , someone gets rich off you....

Cheapest and easiest way, whatever that is.

After reading  all your  comments, I am leaning  more  towards  cremation  now, bypassing  the burial process altogether  makes    sense.........Why waste valuable land.....I always  intended  to donate my organs, I might as well have the remains  cremated and  then have my ashes  spread over a flower or vegetable garden....Once  you have lived  your life  as best  as you could, it won't matter where  you lie after death....Once you die,you become history, and it is time for a new life to take your place.....
