A friend of mine (I'll call him D.B) is a high school student at a public school in Florida. He's a believing Christian. In a recent conversation he aggressively asserted that he no longer believed evolution was valid having been persuaded by his teacher. He badly summarized the worksheets that persuaded him. The worksheets were given by his biology teacher to the students. I asked him to send me a few photographs. This is what he sent me.
I can't decide if these are actually part of the curriculum or were introduced as part of a personal crusade. Either way it is quite discomfiting to me because I read it as being deliberate poisoning of the well. Sometimes the information is blatantly wrong. Sometimes it is inadequately explained so as to seem wrong.
The accurate information mixed in with so many more inaccuracies persuades me to believe this is purposeful malediction. By whom? I don't know.
D.B. told me that this was presented by the teacher in the context that science was trying to use evolution to disprove God. But since science wasn't certain either both science and religion used faith.
I didn't know what to say. But I pointed out that one can't by any theory disprove something that exists. The evidence of existence makes such hypothesis ludicrous. D.B. seemed persuaded by that.
I'm so glad I never went to school.
