Zombie Muhammad? Atheist Attacked by Muslim During Halloween Parade

A Muslim attacked an Atheist marching in a local Pennsylvania Halloween parade Tuesday for wearing a “Zombie Muhammad” costume.

The Muslim man stormed out of the hometown crowd in Mechanicsburg and assaulted one of the Parading Atheists of Central Pennsylvania (PACP) who happened to be wearing the offending costume. The atheist in the Zombie Muhammad costume proclaimed he was the Prophet Muhammad, risen from the dead.

This proclamation and costume apparently offended the Muslim man enough to come out of the crowd, follow and harass the atheist, and then choke him. Subsequently, a police report was filed, and charges in the matter are pending.

The victim posted a video of the incident on YouTube, and in the description he writes:

Oct 11 2011 in the Machanicsburg City Parade I was attacked by a violent muslim IN AMERICA! This is proof that muslims want Sharia Law in America. He attacks me to pull my beard off so he could identify me and chokes me.

I understand many will say I deserved it, but no one has the right to abridge my freedom of speech and violence is never the answer to freedom of speech. Islam is a religion of Peace? not the case here.

Of course, some are questioning the wisdom of marching in a parade to intentionally offend a religious group, as well as the public relations value of such an activity. The intent, however, may not have necessarily been to offend, but merely to treat a sensitive issue with satire. Indeed, there was also a “Zombie Pope” who marched in the Halloween parade while claiming to be on the look out for little boys. Then again, many Catholics may have found that image quite offensive.

What do you think about Zombie Muhammad marching in a Halloween parade?

Thanks for clarifying.

Yeah catholics in us are definitely a bit more relaxed. Just a few centuries ago the joker would have been relaxed to the secular arm and burned at the stake. Hallelujah sp?

My point is that Catholics were not attacking the atheist Pope shouting more offensive things.  Zombie Mohummad was only shouting he was back from the dead.  It wasn't like the guy called all muslim imans pedophiles.

Grace, look at the big picture.

There are endless examples of catholics attacking muslims. It started with the crusades-tens of thousands died in unprovoked attacks. There was even a children's crusade where catholic children were sent to kill muslim infidels. There is a history of endless tit for tat and reciprocation of lethal aggression. Recently at an arab festival christians ridiculed and attacked muslims. After 9/11 it happenned.

This zombie thing is next to nothing joke of an incident. Religion is the cancer and faith is the oxygen that feeds the inferno.

Seeing an equivalency between atheists who make fun of and religious extemism is not seeing at all. Then again I am not sure I get your point?

I don't like the KKK, but I don't try to strangle them either.  I didn't see any Catholics attacking the zombie Pope.

In and of itself it is a nothing issue. The zombie guy was being a little jerky. So what? The point is the power of Islam to transform its adherents into zombies. Van Gogh murdered for a cartoon. Others threatened with death for minor league cartoon lampooning. Death for apostasy.

Islam is a dictatorship of the first order and the characterization of any atheists as extremists or militant is nonsense. Is it treason to oppose the hands of tyranny with a cartoon or jab? Is it treason to oppose the worst oppression and to defend the oppressed?

I totally agree that these people react to the extreme and don't condone the acts whatsoever. But I think there is better ways of making a point then antagonize peoPle and knowingly putting yourself in plain sight of danger. I know the extremist Connor be reasoned with but what are the percentages off these extremist in their culture.?? My friends are mostly Christians and consider me extreme about atheism. However I'm not out there in the streets making myself a mark either.

I think "everybody dress up as Mohammed day" might be in order.

It's bullshit that people are allowed to dress up as priests and nuns but it's so offensive to dress up as anything Islamic.

Aaron: it is more important than simply wearing a costume. IT is about our defending our western values of free expression and not allowing it to be trampled upon by a people who feel that violence is the answer to people's opinions and free expressions. Do we so quickly forget the Muhammad cartoons and the reaction it caused in the Muslim world?? This is about defending our way of life.
