Thanks for your obviously considerable efforts in transporting the Facebook conversation here. I've offered a response which I hope is commensurate with those efforts, though most of it is intuitively obvious to us here.
My "situation" was in Montreal for the weekend, so I went to my island home to visit my parents. The only glorious moment I had was Sunday morning when I was loading up the Jeep to go to the beach, and my mother came out and decided to skip church and go with me. Win! That, and my father gave me a kickass old shotgun to hunt hogs with. I live in Texas. Yeehaw.
Your date sounds very nice. It's cute that you mentioned that you like kissing boys. I'm pleased that you had an hour and a half for that part of the date. Kissing for that long is something that I enjoy when I am into it. And I usually am...
My situation is going great. We are about to meet for brunch at a cute downtown local venue. Haven't made the progress you made last night, but it is on the way.
Your 3rd date IS going to be killer. How exciting! Enjoy.
Tho' I can say Hitch follows me on Twitter. But I don't tweet very much and neither does he.
But it's been useful since his illness as it's meant I've been able to send a couple of private messages to him. One representing the good wishes of the London Atheist's Meetup group, to which I belong and another commenting on something else.
I want to send another soon as I saw an interview with him recently saying he feels that, in his experience, if someone wants to write to a person in the public eye, they should just do it. He has been heartened by the communictions from others and believes it's useful and democratic in spirit, so to speak, to do it.
Heck, I don't want him to go. And I have a bad feeling about his recent voice loss.
The Sam Harris one I went to was the same one you were at and I could have flashed a picture of me getting my book signed and exchanging a couple of words with Sam if my friend's camera hadn't failed him!!
The Hitch/Widdi debate was brought up on the Meetup message board and me and another guy went. We were surprised at the lack of enthusiasm from others. But now they all wished they'd gone and have watched it often more than once on YouTube. Ya boo! We went!! (when am I gonna grow up??)
Still, we're not worshippers on here and I don't go too far down the 'fan' line. Let's just say I can be impressed! And I didn't know I was having my picture taken!
I agree with you: once their arguments get dismantled (you dismantle them soooooo well btw!!), all they have left are threats of "hell" and violence. Not only are christians credulous, they are extremely sensitive and frequently forget that folks can say/ post/ write about whatever they want! This to me stems from their seemingly universal belief that everyone believes in the Christian “god”, or at the very least some other type of “god”; both beliefs are in my opinion extremely arrogant. And they are sooo emotionally attached to their beliefs- to the point where they would fight or disown someone else for not believing or for even questioning their beliefs?! This behavior is just ludicrous.
Re: being a pest about my attendance or the lack thereof at the conference lol:
I’d totally wear my heels- are you kidding?! LOL! I love my shoes! I joke around and compare myself to a drag queen in them lol. The reason why I probably will not go is money- that funds for that trip could go to my new apartment and new furniture! I know, you think I should go in spite of that, but I’ve recently had to move back home (in late August 2010) and I’ve GOT TO GET OUT!!!!! I desperately need my own space again!
Wow- are you serious?! A FB debate?! Did I miss something today?!? WTF??? Need more details!!
P.S.: I just read your pevious regarding (suuuper late sorry!!). How tall is Dawkins? How tall are you? I'm a tall one, 5'10 in my flats lol. I do wanna go to the conference in Iowa but I'll be apartment hunting/ moving around that time, and apt hunting in NYC is awful! And the rents are truly exorbitant. I hope the Manchester conference is good, keep me posted!
