Occam's Razor basically says the simplest answer is usually the best. One blade should suffice.

Your bird must have read Webster's Dictionary.

Fun post.

Hi Tony! I think it's a WONDERFUL idea for you to make contact with Aussie atheists during your trip. Please join the Aussie group and post your request as a discussion.

I've got a frantic morning this morning, but when things settle down this afternoon, I'll make some suggestions myself.

What a pity you're not coming as far north as Queensland! Maybe next time. :-(

Cheers, Kris

Thanks for the welcome last July, Tony. I've been MIA from Atheist Nexus for several reasons. Busy traveling. I know all about Fermilab. My son's partner is the chief mechanical engineer of the water-cooling system. I'm familiar with quarks, neutrinos and the other one I can't remember. I know all about CERN. The more I learn about physics and the physical universe, the more confident I am in my non-belief.

I am pursuing a botanical illustration certificate at Morton Arboretum -- another landmark near you. I'm fascinated by anything scientific in my old age. I suppose my father's influence had much to do with my atheism. He is gone now, but he worked for NASA - on Apollo. He spoke as eloquently and was nearly as erudite as Dawkins. My mother was a lax Catholic but dragged me to church and made sure I was confirmed - I'm sure out of fear of her Italian Roman Catholic mother. She finally admitted she hated the church a few years ago. She's 91. I have no clue why I'm telling you all of this. Is just nice to know there are brilliant and crazy people out there - and quite near. I fantasize about somehow getting a 'count' of how many of us there actually ARE. I'd love to round them all up and have a party.

Thanks! I shall! Tiana and I are inviting Casey Luskin out for dinner or coffee or whatever before our podcast and we really hope he says yes. Then it's off to British Columbia for me!

Hey, friend. It's been awhile. I was just wondering what you're up to.

Thanks for the welcome! You appear to be a man who wears many hats -- atheist, fantasy baseballer, sibling of a famous author ( and a man I like to call "boss").How do you find the time? I just found this site yesterday and I already feel like I have a new family.

Chico really is pretty great, other than the terrible traffic and weather.

Thanks for commenting.

Well color me stupid. Reminds me of an exercise in Psych 101 where we were shown a portion of a photo and asked whether the subject was laughing or crying. As I recall, this was to illustrate how much we rely on the surrounding cues for interpretation.

So, one of the photos was a film still of Tatum O'Neal with a hat on and the butt of her palm in her mouth. I had some sort of mental block, because to me the photo looked like a shoe.

Childhood trauma, maybe?

Hi Tony.

How do I break this to you? I keep seeing your photo everywhere while shuffling around the site, and I keep thinking you're Rip Torn, from about 30 years ago.

I hope that doesn't bother you. After all, it's one man's opinion, and I mean it as a compliment.

Hey Tony , this is strange. I saw your pic on the members page and it was like looking in a mirror. I'll put my pic up in a couple of days (once I get my act together) and i think you'll see the resemblance. Maybe it's just the goatee, or the way your photo was taken but the resembleance is quite disconcerting.

Thanks. I think you can see that my musical taste is pretty much one mish mosh of everything and anything.

I'm not very 'professional' myself. I lack a lot of technical skills but make up for it with artful dodging. :)

I have a site in the works (it will be but I have to wait for my friend to help me put it up since I know nothing about website design. For now, I have my deviantArt page which you can find here:

Your fountain picture is superb, by the way. The lighting/aperture/ISO all came together perfectly! Three cheers for that!

At first when I saw your profile I thought TLDR but then I came back to it and gave it a chance and it was quite engaging! You have an uncommon wit about you, my good sir. If I had a hat I would be tempted to tip it in your direction.
