Luckily I live very far from most of my family so it's not that much of a bother. I have one acquaintance who insists that the coincidences that happen in my life must make me question the existence of "god". She doesn't accept that it does not, that is most annoying. She attempts to play on my losses to lead me back to the flock. It does the exact opposite. We would be so much nicer if religion was not part of the picture, if people would accept this is all we have...

My family chooses to ignore that I'm an atheist. Except for my grown children, who are atheists, everyone is still trying to "save" me.

Thank you for the welcome, it's kind of like finding home, isn't it?

Being an atheist in a religious family is not easy. One is either forced to "partake" in ceremonies or decide not to participate/attend. You go to a sister's house for a Thanksgiving meal, and they "offer up" a prayer of thanks. What do you do? While others prayed in church, I never bowed (I did stand) or recited aloud. In my mind, I was a rock--solid and silent. I'm learning to accept the belief of others without being judgmental. It ain't easy!

Spud, leaving religion was like having a weight lifted from me.  The instilled guilt and fear eventually disappeared completly.  Now if I could just break myself from watching the news...

I have the lowest package available (DISH) with no ESPN, etc. Suits me fine. In fact, I'm considering dumping all TV programming. I only have it on to keep me company. That and Big Bang Theory--my fave!

Perhaps because I AM single, people think I prefer being alone. Well, sometimes yes, sometimes no. It's just the mystery of it all. Enjoyed reading your Mormon insight.

You should sing more, certainly listen to more music. I'm lucky to have good radio stations playing classical music (and jazz). The radio is on all day. I also have many records and tapes. What do you do when you "hang around the house"? Can't you listen to music? By the way, I am lean and healthy, but I work at it very diligently. I'm going to reach 100 if it kills me!!
