Just letting you know that Heavy Traffic was full of violence and harsh scenes. One is hard pressed to find a protagonist. Have you seen American Pop? It's a much more polished film with a lot of depth, but it doesn't go into religion particularly and glorifies cocaine dealers a bit.
Hah i saw the same post. It's nice to know i'm not the only one being bombarded with that crap. A|N is better by miles. I'm now weighing leaving my Facebook idle purely as a means for contact vs. telling people to use e-mail like normal people and deleting my presence there.
Dunno if it's so much introversion as a general hatred for my high school years. I joined Facebook with the intention of contacting ONE person from those days and ended up with pages of "Friend" requests from people who - apparently - didn't remember snickering at me behind my back for four years. Ah, high school.
Thanks for the group suggestions, i'm just getting started at A|N (been an atheist for a while, just gun-shy over social networking sites ever since i reluctantly joined Facebook and was subsequently bombarded with application invitations and "friend" invites from people i hadn't seen since high school. Bleagh.).
Thanks for the info about the LSF. I went to UMD and during part of my time there (98-2000 I think) I was an officer and founding member for a campus atheists/agnostics group called the Gregarious Opponents of Dogma or the G.O.D. club for short. We were affiliated with the LSF and I went to some of there meetings. Is Bill Van Druten still around? A good guy.
I've always seen it for a thesis on dogma from any source. Specifically political but applicable to religion as well. I was not aware of the "be seeing you" salute as a reference to a Christian salute. Have any info on that? I'd love to read more.
Self righteousness is what I despise the most in religious people. I THOUGHT that you were supposed to be HUMBLE in the Lords graces. Or some such nonsense. Seconded by comments like Missy's on this article in my hometown paper. http://wenatcheeworld.com/article/20090901/NEWS04/709019970 Letsee... God made you late so you missed an accident.... right, but he allows millions of faithful families and kids to die horrible deaths every day. That makes perfect sense!.... ha ha ha....
As per the family friendly comment, they actually did allow us to wear our "godless clothing" into the Creation "Museum." The only person that got any crap was the one with the billboard slogan "Don't believe in God? You are not alone."
Funny considering that is completely inoffensive and true and many other people had on things attacking religious views. Who would have guessed that the people at the Creation Museum would be hypocrites!!?!
