Greetings, Angie! I notice you haven't been active at Atheist Nexus lately. <sigh> Sometimes it can seem a bit fragmented, with different groups for every interest. Please consider a group for socializing, where we talk about whatever's on our minds, Hang With Friends. :D You might feel more at home.
I Actually found you through a link following spree starting from Richarddawkins.net, Lol and read your blog. I added you as a friend on here in Sept, and have been to busy to be back due to work. Anyway, Inspiring to say the least. Hope all is well.
But seriously, it's not as bad as you'd think. We have a major university here that brings in a lot of culture and diversity. Pretty sure that if the school wasn't here that this would be one law away from Taliban rule.
I was the janitor and i hit the old nuclear guy over the head and his scrubs fit so.....no one seems to notice.....hehehehe We use radioactive drugs for diagnostic imaging....i can be a bit more vague if you want me too....semipro football player on the side.....musician.....boater.....fool for love...... YOU?
Hi Angie - please don't leave AN. Brother Richard is aware of the issues you raise and AN's guidelines are being reviewed to try to accommodate the needs of our community as it grows larger and more complex. AN is evolving and it will take some time for all of us to work out what values are shared by an 'atheist community' and what behaviours and views will not be tolerated. Atheist 'community' is a new concept, and it will take time to work out what that really means - I hope rather than leaving the group, you'll continue to add your voice and influence, because we need rational, ethical people like you.
My experience as an xtian was with Pentecostals and charismatic evangelicals, but I suppose that your experience was a little more extreme than that. I did have friends who were into prosperity gospel and faith healing but didn't go as far as refusing conventional medical attention (although some did suffer from not going when they should).
I met my wife when we were both fundamentalist xtians, but I'm an atheist and she's now an agnostic. We have fights over which religion NOT to bring our children up in.
It must be difficult to be an atheist in the F-State. Hopefully you have plenty of non-fundy friends...
