Hi Jennie! I'm Kris - I host the Aussie/Kiwi group here on Nexus. I'm also the media and communications consultant for the forthcoming "Rise of Atheism" Global Atheist Convention to be held in Melbourne in March 2010. The Convention is being organized jointly by Atheist Alliance International and the Atheist Foundation of Australia.
I wonder if you could let your members know that tickets for the convention are now available online at the Convention website. We are expecting nearly 3,000 delegates, so this convention is going to be huge.
Confirmed speakers include: Richard Dawkins, AC Grayling, PZ Myers, Dan Barker, Peter Singer, Taslima Nasrin and many more.
Anything you can do to help us get the word out would be greatly appreciated.
If the government is so obsessed with spending money on deciding what goes in and/or out of women's bodies, maybe they should just give each women an account with that money so you can decide what it gets used for instead...public health care of sorts.
hah! The most amusing bit to me would be how fast things would change once nothing but fundies and hard-core patriot types were left. Theocracy, a few less stars on the flag and further deterioration of anyone else in the world giving a damn would be just the start!
Meanwhile Canada would have more enlightened, educated and hard working minds to help power her politics and economy...*daydreams*
At least we could sit on the sidelines and watch the country eat itself from the inside out, chuckling under our breath ;P
A social revolution in the US would be nothing short of amazing. There seems to be one on the horizon but completely opposite of what we might hope for and that has me a bit pensive. A full militant revolution would be very, very, very ugly. It's hard to imagine how that situation would play out when the smoke cleared.
Oh, most definitely! They've certainly got room for a few hundred thousand (if not more) displaced expatriates but unfortunately I don't think the job market up there, even over time, could support it.
We can still dream though can't we? :)
I'm curious what the political repercussions from the US would be, if any...
I was a huge supporter of Howard Dean, if you remember that whole fiasco. After he got lambasted for saying "woo!" I lost all hope for the process.
The country needs a serious amount of help and I can't see it coming any time soon. Doesn't take much to break something but it takes a heckuva' lot more to put it back together, assuming it's even repairable when the time does come.
Canada looks better and better every time I head up there...
Hi Jennie - I just saw your lovely comment to Rosa commending her for standing up for humour *clasps my hands to my chest* I'm wounded that you didn't also commend me! *grin* That was a joke - I promise you! lol.
Actually what I'm really here to say is, that your comment to Rosa prompted me to have a look at the thread again. To my utter amazement there is more than a third of it missing! *grin* - And an important third as well, since nearly all Becky's comments were directed at this missing poster lol. Go back and have another look - I've posted an explanation of what's happened at the beginning and end of the thread for anyone else who reads it - Have a look at what I've said and there is a video as well that will surprise you *grin*
