After you've searched for topics of interest in "Groups" above and in the "Forums", don't forget to look at recent activity which hides along the right margin of the page all the way at the bottom.
On a personal note, I've developed an animated gif technique, sort of “pull quote marries slideshow”. Samples are scattered across various groups, but you can find them easily by going to my twitter account. Each tweet has a link (after the description and before the hashtags) to a visually rich example here at Atheist Nexus. If you like them, please follow me
You have been added to my friends list. You have been warned.
I can relate to not finding a group of rationalists, atheists, or sceptical thinkers in a small town: I think my wife and I are the only ones in the entire Nebraska Panhandle. (There are two listed here in Scottsbluff but I have never seen them on.)
My wife used to live in Colorado Springs, home of Focus on the Family, so she is quite aware of the religio-industrial complex there; whilst I was in the Navy for seventeen years and spent nearly all my time in Dixie evading evangelicals.
Oh wow. Yeah, I know a bit about the mega-church culture of Colorado. The state isn't as bad as many, but there's definitely a deep religious-streak.
I can see the need for people to talk to, when you're not even in one of the larger urban areas. No way you'll find a local atheism group, as far out as you are. Most places need a clustered population of at least half a million to get a good-sized group going.
I don't suppose you have any friends who are atheists, huh?
Well, check around with the various groups on here. Lots of random conversation going on and plenty of people to connect with. Just jump in and get involved. Let me know if there are any particular subjects you're interested in.
