Hi George! I'm Kris. As well as hosting the Aussie/Kiwi group here on Nexus. I'm also the media and communications consultant for the forthcoming "Rise of Atheism" Global Atheist Convention to be held in Melbourne in March 2010. The Convention is being organized jointly by Atheist Alliance International and the Atheist Foundation of Australia.
I wonder if you could let your Alabama atheists know that tickets for the convention are now available online at the Convention website. We are expecting nearly 3,000 delegates, so this convention is going to be huge.
Confirmed speakers include: Richard Dawkins, AC Grayling, PZ Myers, Dan Barker, Peter Singer, Taslima Nasrin and many more.
Anything you can do to help us get the word out would be greatly appreciated.
Heya George, would you mind putting a link (and maybe a the logo for) my local atheist group on the Alabama Atheists profile you have? The site is www.meetup.com/EtowahRationalists. There's a logo uploaded on my profile. Thanks!
yes Jerome and I are married. My only friend to whom I can talk to about my non-religious beliefs. Sorry it took so long for me to reply but I dont get a chance to get online until the weekend.
To my knowledge I am the only atheist in Hamilton. I would hazard a guess that we're a rare breed in Alabama period. Though, who knows, maybe not as rare as we think. It defiantly would be interesting if more found this site.
Thanks for the tip about Graydon Square. His is the first rap music whose lyrics I really like and agree with. There is one inconsistency in his lyrics, though, in his song "The Dream". In one part of the song he says he doesn't want to "pay for a piece of fruit he never ate," a sentiment I agree with. Later in the song, however, he says "you" should give back "whatever you stole from whatever race is owed anything." I'm not sure who "you" is, but I never stole anything from anybody, and I personally don't want to pay for that piece of fruit I never ate.
Inconsistency? Double standard?
What do you think.
Thanks for the info. I'll look into Graydon Square, though I can't imagine any rapper who might aim to impress middle-aged white women. I'll let you know what I find.
I can't help but love a Hitchhiker's fan. My daughter is reading the books now. I never saw anyone chuckle so much, except maybe when I read the books back in 1985 (and about 10 times since).
I hope you know where your towel is.

I thought you might want to know about a new freethought group in your area.

Best,

Can I find the lyrics to "Dream" anywhere? I'm having trouble googling them.
