It would be beneficial if our education system would teach young children to question their perceptions. Too many people can't distinguish the difference between the perception of reality and actual reality.

Is there any evidence that synesthesia is related to belief systems? Example: A person views an ink stain and is convinced that it is picture of Jesus Christ or the the Virgin Mary. Is that really much different from one viewing the number 1 and seeing the color red? Although synesthesia seems to run in families, belief systems do also. The difference, of course, is that belief systems are not directly related to genetics.
